Incredible sound and visual design, gives the film both its melancholic, period and setting relevant tone, as well as the tone of child like wonder as our protagonist follows his dreams.
Although the films few short comings do stand out, with a strong avoidance of any more complex ethical issues and the characters feeling towards them being non-existent, it just holds the film back a little.
A quick note on Joseph Gordon-Levitt's performance, at times his delivery was quite stilted and wooden and just pulled me out of the experience.
Overall this is a fantastic film, with a touching story, but just lacking a little bit of an edge in key areas that could have propelled it into greatness.
